PC Financial just launched their new credit card the PC insiders World Elite Mastercard will delete MasterCard and since PC World Elite MasterCard is one of my favorite credit cards in Canada because it’s free and I use optimum points I just got to review their new product which is not free so let’s see.

the Insiders version gives you 10 points more per dollar spent at lblock grocery stores just five more points per dollar at Shoppers drugmart instead of 30 points per liter for gas you’re getting 7 cents per liter and what’s probably the most disappointing still the old 10 points per dollar spend on everything else are all these increases worth $120 annual fee now I do have to mention that

with this card you do get complimentary PC Express Pass worth about $100 so if you can get that pass anyways upgrading from a regular World Elite Master Card to discard is only like an extra $20 a year okay so let’s put a value on PC Points because I’m assuming that if you’re considering this card you’re in the PC optimum points ecosystem so 10 points equals to about 1.5 given that you exchange points during special promotional periods

which happens several times a year so essentially, you’re getting an extra 1.5% cashback by shopping at lbl grocery stores 0.75% extra at Shoppers and depending on the gas prices let’s just say an extra 2% more cash back ATO or mobile gas stations let’s just say the average Canadian spends about $1,000 a month on grocery bills cuz remember you can buy toiletries or cleaning products there too at the grocery stores $200 on gas and like $50 at Shoppers so let’s do some simple calculation

every $1,000 for groceries Nets you about an extra $15 a month in cashback and this is compared to the regular World Elite MasterCard $200 in gas it’s like an extra $4 and and some shopping at Shoppers you get a little bit extra there too so if you add all those up, you’re talking about an extra $20 in rewards if you upgrade to this card of course that’s not including the annual fee which is about 10 bucks a month so including the annual fee you come out ahead by about $10 a month

so if you’re a loyal customer of Loblaws you know you basically get all your groceries there You live next to a Superstore and Shoppers it might be a pretty good idea to upgrade that doesn’t even include that it comes with the PC Express pass, which is worth like $100 a year so my final verdict it’s a decent card definitely worth upgrading if you’re in the Loblaws ecosystem but the thing is a lot of us aren’t, because while they do cover a lot of Industries you’re basically only restricted to getting groceries

at their branded supermarkets getting gas at only ESO or mobile and getting drugs or sometimes Cosmetics at Shoppers.

their regular World Elite master car is already one of the best free credit cards out there in Canada and I use it for my main Costco card upgrading is not going to give me more cash back at Costco cuz they’re both 10 points per dollar spent.
